Why a rental car pays off on Mallorca, which routes to drive and what to watch out for.
From Basel, Zurich or Geneva, Mallorca is under two hours away. To see more than the beach and Palma, rent a car.
Routes worth driving
- The Serra de Tramuntana from Andratx to Pollença, stopping in Valldemossa and Deià.
- The hairpins down to Sa Calobra, ideally early in the morning.
- The quiet coves in the south-east around Santanyí.
Good to know
Book early in summer. Expect lots of cyclists in the mountains. In Palma, use a car park rather than hunting for a space.
